Sparring day on Thursday Jan 26th

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

A quick heads up to remind all students that Thursday January 26th is our monthly sparring day. Please bring groin protectors (men), chest protectors (women) and gumshields. Gloves (14-16oz) and other equipment can be provided, though we recommend that you bring your own. If you're using class equipment, we also recommend bringing some babywipes/nearest equivalent. Sharing other people's sweat is a bit minging…

CQC Pistol workshop – May 8th

Monday, April 4th, 2011

On Sunday May 8th, we will be delivering a CQC Pistol workshop. This will be a combatives-based class focusing on the use of the pistol in close quarters. At a basic level, it will cover the disarming of a pistol, use of the pistol as an impact weapon, and the use of the pistol in its optimum capacity (ie. close-range shooting). At a more advanced level, it will cover important tactical principals, and will test the skills of the candidate in various pressure-scenarios.

Note that true proficiency in any field relies upon regular practice and real-life familiarity with the subject matter. With this in mind, the class should be approached as more of a positive starting point in exploring CQC pistol applications, than a complete training course.

Please refer to the "Events" section of the website for further information.

Feedback from sparring day – March 31st

Friday, April 1st, 2011

I just wanted to say a big thankyou to everyone who turned up yesterday. It was encouraging to see such a tremendous amount of fighting spirit, and i am already looking forward to the next one. I caught most of the revolver footage on my camera, so if anyone would like me to put it on a USB stick, please drop one to me at class and i'll get on it ASAP.

Dartford Challenge Results!

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

A massive congratulations to Louis Beale, James Janson, Paul Murray, Andres Olivares, and Thijs Gerberandy for a great performance at this year's Dartford Challenge. For most of the team, this was their first time in competition, and they certainly made an impression. A big thanks also to Nigel Herterich for hosting the tournament, and thanks to all who fought for their great sportsmanship, and excellent standard of play.

Medals won by the RA London squad:-

Louis Beale
Freeweight longstick = GOLD
12- stone doublestick = SILVER
12- stone padded stick = SILVER
12- stone singlestick = BRONZE

James Janson
12+ stone doublestick = SILVER
12+ stone singlestick = BRONZE

Paul Murray
12+ stone doublestick = BRONZE
12+ stone padded stick = BRONZE

No medals for Andres and Thijs, but well done for making the effort lads – having seen the footage, i can safely say that you've got a strong foundation to work on. Good on you for getting stuck in in your Dartford debut!

We are proud of you all.

THE FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS
"The spirit of the Southern Philippines epitomises the unconquerable spirit of the Philippine Islands. Men of all creeds and colours have scrambled for a foothold in the Southern Philippines. Their bones still lie there, and only the spirit of these intrepid men remains. The Spaniards had not envisioned and could not perceive the courage they were to meet from the defenders of the land."
